I had done years on the mat but I hadn’t really been on the Reformer or anything else. So I felt immense imposter syndrome when I was in my training because the other trainees felt so confident and comfortable doing the advanced work.
I consistently felt like I was going to fall off the Reformer, and it really frustrated me.
My hypermobility also made things tricky because I could get into the exercise start position but then was ALL JOINTS when doing the work. And because of that I feared doing or even teaching a lot of the advanced work that felt even a teensy bit gymanastics-like.
I told myself most humans won’t be doing “advanced” exercises afterall. And while I told myself that, it didn’t work. I had a ton of envy from seeing other teachers workout and I felt so limited. Plus, I had some really strong clients who were able to do the advanced work.
So I decided to figure out a way that worked for me to build up to exercises that felt hard, impossible or scared the heck out of me.
The truth is, it’s not about practicing the exercise that scares you over and over again, or the one that you’re not ready for. I know how scary it can be to go upside down… I’m still working on my yoga handstand! But I also know that after learning the foundations I started to trust myself the more I atempted it. Control Balance is the same thing!
