I am the biggest fan of a good Swan exercise! I absolutely love to do this exercise. It feels so good when I connect to all the right spots. But, how did Joe do it in his book? That’s what we will explore this week as well as a few other OG versions of our Mat work from his book Return to Life. Which if you haven’t read you should! It’s pretty great at guiding you through his mat practice.

Have you ever thought of your Mat as a piece of equipment? If not, after this week’s class, I hope you do! Because it truly is. And, if you’re a Reformer lover, I know you think of your Reformer as a piece of equipment. But, do you truly connect to the carriage, handles, foot bar and springs?
This week we are going to explore how we are connecting to our equipment in each exercise. Are we pushing it off of us, or away from us? Or, are we using it to support us?
See ya in class,

Aloha, Arlene here! This is my studio Bodywork & Pilates in Maui, Hawaii. We’re to have an amazing mat class so I’m glad you can join us!
I’m going to go over getting more length in your spine and pulling in your abs. I’m going to be throwing in some extra teasers in there.

I know you love the Reformer! Who doesn’t?! Well, in this week’s class the Reformer meets your mat. Get ready to footwork, row and snake away on your mat. Who needs a reformer when you’ve got your imagination and your muscles?

It’s that time of year again Pilates lovers! It’s March Matness and that means all 34 exercises all month long. BUT what if you are not into some of the 34? What if you’re not going overhead or you’re new and you’re still working on that Roll up? This week’s class is going to be full of prep’s for all the 34 exercises so that each week you can sub in your favorite and still enjoy a good time.

Ok guys, before you run away from this week’s theme, I do hope you give it a try. If you don’t know what Horseback is, you will be like, “why run?” I know that Horseback is an exercise people love to hate. But, just like Hip Circles, this is one of those exercises that we can use to reveal what we need to explore more of in our bodies and where we are rocking!
So, don’t run. Jump on the horse band wagon with me on the Mat and on the Reformer and let’s have a fun ride!

It’s easy to think that some exercises will never be in your Pilates practice. When you hear their names you deflate, or say “can’t do that” or maybe you just stop moving. In this week’s class, I want you to try and have a mini moment with some of the most avoided or more “advanced” exercises.
Don’t worry, there will be options to go on a Pilates date with him the ones we are doing are truly out of your wheelhouse. But, if you’re without injury I hope you try them out. It’s just a fling after all.
All you need is your imagination and a little extra curiosity!
See you in class!

Whenever LL hears that Pilates is easy or that an exercise isn’t hard she knows that there is zero control happening. The body is moving but it’s basically just doing the choreography. When you are doing Pilates with control and a bit of focus on precision every exercise works the whole body.
This week LL focuses on what’s moving where and really paying attention to even what’s not supposed to be moving. Get ready to ask yourself some questions and feel Pilates in your body at a deeper level.

It’s time to switch things up again! I saw in the FB group that people wanted another “freaky Friday” where we do the Mat on the Reformer and the Reformer on the Mat. Sooo it’s happening!
Grab 1 or 2 lb. weights for the Mat work if you have them. If not I’ve had clients on zoom using cold beers and cans of Garbanzo beans. Get creative!
On the Reformer just be ready for a weird flow!
It’s time to switch things up.

This week we focus our thoughts on how wide our backs can get! There is a difference between rounding your shoulders and widening your back. And, this key difference will not only make you stronger but it will make all those overhead and rolling exercises more possible!
- Want Control Balance to feel lifted and strong?
- Wish you could clap your feet 3x during Seal?
- Want your ribs to stay connected?
Then, it’s time to open your mind to the wide back!

There is lots of cues regarding the shoulders. Too often “shoulders down” is a quick fix cue thrown out there. Or, even, “don’t use your shoulders…”. But, what does it feel like to have your shoulders connected? Is it down? Is it back? How will it feel to simply focus on the shoulders throughout the whole mat workout? Well, take this week’s class and find out! I can tell you I can feel the effects after just one time doing this class. Enjoy your shoulder explorations!

Love it or loathe it Teaser is going to continue to show up in your Pilates practice. And, while it is not the “peak” post of Pilates it sure is the most “known” exercise. In this week’s Mat class we will cover all the different ways to strengthen your practice and find the Teaser that is right for you. BTW, if you have a wall near by that you can put your feet on you’ll want to have it close by.
On the Reformer side of this practice we will focus on how all the exercises that pre-ceed and proceed the Teaser really help us do the Teaser. And, if you know that Teaser on the Reformer is not your jam don’t worry. You get to keep you move on with other suggestions I have up my sleeve for you.
Our ultimate goal this week is to to see what Teaser is telling us everyday we practice.
Be sure to share what Teaser told you in the class comments or class group!

An additional 4-call training series all about how to better your personal Pilates practice. We’ll do a quick 15 minute workout and then I’ll actually watch you do the exercises that you have questions about, and we’ll dig in together for the rest of the call.
See you on the call,

We spend a lot of time focusing on the “actions” of the exercises and to a good amount the set ups. But, it’s easy to skip or “rest” through the transitions. And, something so special about Pilates is that there are transitions!
I had a teacher that for a while would not let me do the exercise if I lost my connection to my center as I transitioned. Yep, it was tough!
I promise this class will be fun and full of explorations. And I hope you find some transitions you like that you can keep in your Pilates bag and use in future classes!
Nothing needed extra for either the Mat or the Reformer class. Just bring your fabulous self!

Back by demand… the one rep drill and all that it reveals to us and our Pilates practice. Don’t remember this one? Here’s the gist. On our Mat we will do one of every exercise (feel free to skip ones that you don’t do for injuries).
On the Reformer we will use the one rep drill to help us take advantage of one awesome rep. We won’t have time to go back and do something better. But sometimes I think we throw the first rep away. And this week… we only get to do it one in the class so we have to take advantage.
See ya in class,
