Seated Push Thru Side on the Cadillac
The Cadillac has exercises that can be done on and around it. Seated Push Thru Side is one of those exercises on the Pilates Cadillac that is done around it. Seated Push Thru Side is done “outside the box.” While many Cadillac exercises can be done on a Tower. This particular exercise can be tricky to do on a Tower. It would depend on where the Push Thru Bar was set up and whether you’re on a Mat or on a Combo. However, when doing the Seated Push Thru Side it makes it fun to challenge your arm-back connection and support your Pilates practice.
Reach bar up from where the arm connects to the back without leaning.
Place your short box under the Push Thru Bar on the end of the Cadillac. Hook the Push Thru Bar with a safety chain and then with one heavy spring from below. Sit on the box with your side to the Cadillac. I typically will hook the spring that is behind me. And then when I turn to do the other side I will switch the spring. You can also put the box out past the Push Thru Bar. Sitting on the box knees bent and legs hugging together press your feet down to the floor. The inside arm is hugging the side or resting on the box. The arm closest to the bar the palm faces in and wraps around the bar.
Without leaning or bending your wrist reach the arm up. You don’t have to get to a straight arm. If you can without leaning that’s great. If not then reach as far as you can without leaning. Then bend your arm and resist the spring down. Repeat. Turn around and repeat on the other side. If both sides feel equal great. If one side needs more love do that side first and then repeat after switching sides. Follow up with doing the Seated Push Thru facing the bar.
