The Struggle is Real: Teaser on the Cadillac

Many people feel that the Teaser on the Pilates Cadillac is out of their wheelhouse. Often, complaints of tailbones, lower back issues, or over-active quads and hip flexors are the reason they cannot do the Teaser. And, some of those things may be true. However, I feel that we often try to make our bodies "look" like the ideal Teaser instead of connecting to our own muscles and finding our own version of the Teaser. From this tutorial, I hope you can find a place to start and then layer the levels of Teaser into your practice as you are ready.

Roll down reaching your arms and legs away from your center.

There are many Pilates Teasers to choose from. In this tutorial, I chose to work with the Teaser on the Mat and on the Cadillac. I actually feel that Teaser on the Cadillac is a great first place to learn the Teaser. Set your push-through bar up with a spring from the top. Lay on your back with the bar over your neck. Holding onto the bar, pull the bar down towards you and push it back over your head. It should clear your face, but not be so far away from it that you are too far in front of the bar when you rise up. Maintaining your shoulder connection, lift the bar up to the ceiling and then roll your upper body up while your legs hug tightly together. Roll back down and repeat the reach overhead.

If that went well then on the next one, roll up and lift your legs. Ideally, your legs and eyes will lower and lift at the same level. Be mindful to not lift your legs too high or let them hang too low. As you roll down, reach your arms and legs away from each other from your center. Once your head touches the mat you can bend your elbows and reach overhead. If that went well you can add on by doing the "shave" at the top, lower and lifting your legs or both!
