I am beyond excited for my Pilates Retreat in April of 2017! Besides my love for Spring I am honored to share a week of Pilates classes, workshops and the beaches of Maui, Hawaii with my friend, colleague and incredible Pilates instructor Arlene Taus Soloman.

This retreat is one to attend! We have the opportunity to do sunrise and sunset mat classes right on the beach. Arlene will be leading a workshop on self-massage, and I will lead one on goals that rock your soul. There will also be a welcome dinner and a celestial movie night! Yes, right outside under the stars we will watch some amazing videos of Joseph Pilates. Can you picture it?

What I love most about this Pilates retreat is that your friends and family can join you in Maui. They can sleep in, take in some sites and then when you’re done with your Pilates session or workshop you can join up and enjoy the wonders together. We have meal options for non-attendees as well. Please contact me if you would like info on this option.

Maui books up! Don’t hesitate to snag your spot here. Also, get on Air B&B and snag your dream Maui abode. For more details read below or click here.

Five nights, April 2nd – 7th. The locale for this retreat will be centered around Arlene’s home-studio which is a beach shack that sits up on a bluff overlooking a favorite beach park known as Charley Young Beach. The park is situated in an old neighborhood with a mixed demographic and very local feel. The beach house has a rustic, weathered, vintage vibe actually remnant of “Old Hawaii.” There are beautiful, simple accommodations available on the 2nd floor above the studio as well as other oceanfront vacation rentals to choose from along the coastline to the right and left of the Pilates studio. In addition to swimming, beach walks, rejuvenating outdoor sunrise and sunset mat sessions you will have access to a fully equipped studio with 2 Reformers, Cadillac, Chairs & Barrels and two Pilates teachers! Lesley & Arlene will present workshops and offer Private Sessions and Open Studio classes throughout the week so expect to sweat, deepen your Pilates practice and at the same time relax, have fun in the sun and eat well. Our very own personal Chef Derrick will prepare for us fresh, healthy breakfasts, luncheons and two special dinners with entertainment- a first night Welcome Feast featuring local cuisine followed by a Celestial Cinema Gala- an outdoor screening of archival Joe Pilates films and a final night Farewell Banquet with Hawaiian Hula Dancers!

The Location
The Hawaiian Islands (Hawaiian: Mokupuni o Hawai‘i) are an archipelago of eight major islands, several atolls and numerous smaller islets in the North Pacific Ocean. The Hawaiian phrase “No Ka ‘Oi” (meaning the best) is used when referencing the island of Maui. We’ll be on the south side of Maui enjoying the laid-back coastal town of Kihei. With a blend of warm tropical sunshine, varying humidity, ocean breezes and trade winds, Kihei’s daytime temperatures average between 85 and 90 degrees year round, evening temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler. Although the Island of Maui is small, it has an incredible selection of micro-climates depending on altitude and weather. Kihei is typically hot, dry and sunny but drive a short distance and you can be in a rainforest or a mountainous frozen alpine ecosystem. While being immersed in the practice of Pilates, you’ll also have a spectacular list of optional excursions to experience; hiking through a bamboo forest, or along the dramatic black rock coastline of Wai’anapanapa or through the backcountry of Mt. Haleakala through stark volcanic landscapes and sub-tropical rain forest. And the list goes on, stroll an endless stretch of sandy beaches, swim under waterfalls, snorkel with sea turtles, book a reservation on a boat, try surfing, stand up paddling or simply relax, book a massage, drive through the historic villages of Paia & Makawao, shop and eat. “Maui No Ka ‘Oi”!

UP, UP, & AWAY

ONLINE MAT, REFORMER, CADILLAC & WUNDA CHAIR PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

We are all going to feel like Super Humans after this month!!

Whenever I’m in a hard exercise (for me) where I’m holding myself up with my arms and reaching my legs away I picture myself with super human strength!!! I can do ANYTHING! It makes me smile and helps me stay STRONG.

This month our exercise is Up Stretch and when you think about it - reaching your legs away and staying strong over the carriage may feel a lot like flying!

We’ll be focusing on stabilizing our strong cores while staying equally balanced in our arms and legs. We are giving you some amazing building blocks by merging strength and stretch in all directions. You are going to get a little bit of everything that you can use to connect to your Up Stretch (and even your Roll Up and Knee Stretches Off).

Chair: Please have a foam roller and a balance pad available. We are going to challenge your balance safely.

GLOW WITH THE FLOW

Online Mat & Reformer Pilates Class Descriptions:

Get ready for rosy cheeks and a natural glow effect! This week we will flow through our Mat and Reformer order again. Less cuing, more connecting each exercise to the next to keep our center working. Grab your notebook and notice which exercises our body connects easily and which not so we can create future themes for you!

Can´t wait,

Yasmin

Props: Mat: nothing
Reformer: Box, Pad, Pole

SIDE SITUATION

Online Mat & Reformer Pilates Class Descriptions:

Its easy to focus on the parts of exercises we can see. For example in Roll Up we can see our legs or the front of our center. But, the side body is key in all that we do! Its really what helps keep our upper half of our body from sinking on the lower half! So in this weeks classes we will be focusing on our side body and how that affects our rolling work too!

No Props Needed

BABY GOT BACK... BENDS

Online Mat & Reformer Pilates Class Descriptions:

Let’s focus on building the support for backbends. We’ll be opening the hips, strengthening the backside, and activating the front body to support a smooth, supported arch.
And if your spine isn’t into full backbends, don’t you worry! This class is still for you. You’ll improve posture, shoulder mobility, and create more space through the front body. It’s less about bending, more about balance and support.

Props needed : Rod

BREATHE IT IN

NOT A SUMMER FLING

Let´s talk about your Squat!

Let’s create a little love affair with one of our Pilates Principles - Control. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has to use a little momentum every now and again, but there is a difference between controlled momentum and flinging ourselves around in space. Let’s focus on precise, deliberate movements, resisting the urge to fling our limbs around.

Props:

Mat = TBD
Reformer = Box, Pole, Pad (we use this for some footwork exercises)
Tower = Used foam roller or block under the head for side leg springs (always optional)
Chair = box, gondola pole, mat

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

ONLINE MAT, REFORMER, TOWER/CADILLAC & WUNDA CHAIR PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

The STAR WARS Universe needs more than just a day of celebrating …May The Fourth! Let’s honor that mind-body-Jedi spirit, as well as the Power of 4, all month…May The Force Be With You! All of our 45 min classes will use 4 reps or a combination of 4 exercises to connect us to our strength.

On the reformer, we’ll use the Pilates pole as our own special light saber of focus! (Swiffer handles or yardsticks work well, too!

DOUBLE TAKE

Online Mat & Reformer Pilates Class Descriptions:

When Jay Grimes told me that there is only 1 Pilates exercise we do 500+ ways and its Double Leg Stretch or sometimes called Double Leg Pull it got me thinking about how I can find that in each exercise. Sometimes its obvious, sometimes its not. Maybe all we find is the arms or legs this week.

We'll start class with a Thera band (old pair of leggings can work). Feel free to use it as often as you need!

See ya in class,

SUCH A TEASE

ONLINE MAT & REFORMER PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Teaser is probably one of the most photographed exercises in Pilates. Which makes people think it's a "peak pose." But, it's anything but! It's simply another layer to your Pilates practice. This week we will acknowledge how each exercise contributes to your ability to do Teaser (someday) and then how Teaser teaches you where to get curious in your practice.

On the Mat we will use light weights for one round of Teaser as they can be helpful for those still adding into their practice.
No props on the Reformer.
