Pumping with the Foot Corrector
A not so known but very informative exercise on the Pilates Foot Corrector is Pumping. It challenges your balance, coordination and works all parts of the foot, including the arches. As you pump though it’s important to check in and make sure you’re standing so much in your center that you can lift paddle foot at any time!
It’s tempting to focus on the pumping so much you lean into it. Make sure you can lift your paddle foot and balance.
Standing behind the Foot Corrector, a gait or less distance away. Place the ball of one foot on the pedal with your heel up. Hands can be on hips, long by your side or holding a Gondola pole for balance.
With the heel high pump the pedal up and down with zest. It’s tempting for the body to move forward and back with the pumps. Ideally, you are not using the pumping leg for balance. After 10 pumps, lift the foot up and place the arch on the pedal. Long toes and heel not dropping down either. The foot is flat and even. Pump the pedal again 10x. Again, not using the pedal to hold the weight of your body. Finally, place the heel on the pedal, toes long and pump the pedal 10x.
When done with all three placements, switch feet and repeat. If needed, repeat on the side that needs more attention.
