Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Baby Got Back, Mat & Reformer
So, this week, I hope you are ready to connect to your seat! Because we will use some of my favorite ways to feel your booty in both your Mat and Reformer work.
For the Mat if you have a Magic circle bring it. If not a ball or your amazing imagination will do. We will start the class with some ways to wake up your seat and connect more to your center.
On the Reformer we will play around with what to press more into or less into to find your seat as we flow from start to finish. My hope is that at the end of the week you and your thut (you know your butt below the butt) have found each other created a relationship and are ready to flow.

3/13 Pilates Mat Class: March Matness Single Leg Kick
What’s this exercise for? Single Leg Kick is probably THE exercise that I get questions on!
Luckily for us, this is the 13th exercise in our order. This week feel something new in the Single Leg Kick and how it really sets you up for exercises that would otherwise be so hard to do without the wonderful strength the Single Leg Kick gives us!
See you on your mat,

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Magically Supported
Everyone’s favorite prop to love sometimes and hate other times is back! This week we’ll explore how the Magic Circle can help us connect our arms to our back, especially on the Mat. Keep that Magic circle nearby though because on the Mat and Reformer we might want to borrow some of its charm to connect more to other parts of your practice!
We’ll start with a yummy prep in both classes and I hope you like it and use it more often than just this week to connect to your back!

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: When 1 is Enough
Back by demand… the one rep drill and all that it reveals to us and our Pilates practice. Don’t remember this one? Here’s the gist. On our Mat we will do one of every exercise (feel free to skip ones that you don’t do for injuries).
On the Reformer we will use the one rep drill to help us take advantage of one awesome rep. We won’t have time to go back and do something better. But sometimes I think we throw the first rep away. And this week… we only get to do it one in the class so we have to take advantage.
See ya in class,

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Elephant’s Everywhere!
Elephant is one of the toughest exercises for me. The lift, the reach and against gravity! AHH! So, this week, let’s not only work on our Elephant on the Reformer but also all the places where the Elephant exists!

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Switching Things Up!
This week we’ll be doing our Reformer exercises on the Mat and the Mat exercise on the Reformer. If you have never done Pilates on a Reformer, there may be some exercise that seem odd to you. And, if you are always choosing our Reformer classes instead of the Mat, you might want to skip this week. But, I really want you to feel how the entire Pilates method works together. How the Reformer can support you and the Mat can challenge you.
On the mat have a set of 1 lb. weights nearby (if you have them it’s not necessary). Reformer lovers you won’t need any extra props just pay attention to different spring settings and flows.
See you in class!

8/7 Pilates Mat Class: Open Front, Wide Back
Opening your front without closing your back!
This week’s class is a special request from one of YOU! While I don’t work hours in front of my computer I too am on my devices or working hours rounded forwarded working with a client.
In today’s day, it’s more common that we are rounding forward than sitting or standing tall. But, how do you open your chest without crunching your shoulders blades onto your back and causing your shoulders to rise into your ears?
This week’s class is going to take a tour through our regular mat order but with an open front and a wide back!
See you on your mat!

1/23 Pilates Mat Class: Focus on the Finish
When you work on the reformer or any piece of equipment it’s easy to know when you’ve “finished” the exercise. The springs are closed and you’re back at the start position.
But, on the mat it’s all you! There is not equipment to help you “finish,” just yourself. And, as the movement goes on you may not want to be back in your original start position. In fact, when you’re flowing some exercises finish when the next one begins.
So, let’s focus on the finish! The final inches. That is where the work really is.
See you on your mat!

9/25 Pilates Mat Class: Seal It Off
The Seal! Typically considered a harder version of Rolling Like a Ball. But, is it? Or, is it a time for you to shine?
I know for me the first time I did the seal I thought it was a funny exercise. I wondered why we even did it. And, then my teacher Jay Grimes reminded me that its a time to show off. To show that you can clap your legs in and out while maintaining balance. And not just at the top of the Seal but at the upside down part too!
Are you ready to let your Seal shine? Let’s Seal it Off together this week!

CYBC – June 2022 – Forever Access
One thing I see in pics, videos or virtual sessions are the heels coming apart. And it does make a difference in making the exercises happen when the heels are together. The strength you gain from that hug is necessary when the heels are apart. This week, we will use the Magic Circle for some teachable moments. But you can hug a quarter to challenge yourself.
See you in class,

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: A Ball of Fun!
Back by OPC member demand – the squishy ball! We did some of these back in February when we brought our barrel work to our Mat and Reformer practices. This week we are going to bring back the bits you all voted you liked best and a few others.
If that is all gibberish to you because you’re new… don’t worry… just grab a ball and get ready to have some fun.
Don’t have a ball? Grab a Yoga bolster, foam roller or a couple good pillows to help prop you up!

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Why Weight When You Can Row
One of my favorite parts of the HIIT classes I go to besides the Thai kicks (freaking love those) is when we Row! I see a lot of people do it so wrong. All in their upper necks and lower backs. But, when I get on the rower I feel my seat connect, my center work and like I could go for at least 5 seconds longer than the timer. And it’s all thanks to Pilates!
So, grab your 1 lb. or maybe even 2 lb. weights and join me for a week of Rowing! On the Mat we’ll bring the rowing exercises to our flow. And, on the Reformer we’ll row where we row and we’ll sneak some rowing into other places too!
Can’t wait to see you row!

9/18 Pilates Mat Class: The Bar Connection
The weight pole aka bar in the Pilates Mat can be used for more than just the Roll Up and the Thigh Stretch. In fact, it’s purpose in those two exercises can be a tool for many different Pilates Mat exercises!
If you do not have a pole, weighted bar you can try 1lb weights, a dowel or a theraband. If you have none of those items I do give ways to do this class without and it will still be a challenge! So, no need to skip this week!
I hope you have fun finding your back strength and playing with the way connecting to your back with this pole can affect more than your Roll Up!

Pilates Mat & Reformer Classes: Single Leg What?!?!
I know it’s not just me. But, have you ever noticed how many exercises start with “single leg” and if they don’t how many exercises are one sided. It’s a lot!
And, why is that? Why so much emphasis on doing asymmetrical work? Well, as you know, we don’t do Pilates to do Pilates better. We do it to do life better! And so much of life is one-sided!
So, let’s rock what we got!
On our Mat and Reformer, we will explore more of the asymmetrical exercises and then challenge what we’ve learned by doing exercises that are symmetrical. You may have to work a bit more through one side!
See ya in class,
