Bat on the Arm Chair
Bat on the Pilates Arm Chair also known as the Pilates Baby Chair is similar to the Bat on the Cadillac or Tower. If you’re ready to find the connections on your upper back while keeping your shoulders wide Bat is an exercise you will want to explore. Bat on the Arm Chair is more accessible to most people’s abilities than Bat with Standing Arm Springs. The springs are lighter and you’ve removed some of the joints in your legs. If possible learn and practice Bat on the Arm Chair before trying it on your Cadillac or Tower.
Use your core to maintain length in your spine as you move the arms.
Kneel on the Arm Chair facing the back padding. Take the handle and cross the springs. Place one handle in each hand after you have crossed the springs. Align your shoulders over your hips and knees. Squeeze your legs together. Reach your knees down. If your hips are tight its easy to lean your lower back forward instead of place your hips over your shoulders. If legs cannot be together you can also do knees slightly apart and hug your feet together. Reach your arms wide to the side with the entire hand pressing into your handle.
Without lifting your shoulders or pinching your shoulder blades together reach your arms wide to the side and move the handles and springs backward. If you’re maintaining wide shoulders and your shoulders on your back the springs will not move very much. Resist the springs as you move your arms forward. Resist by pressing your hands into the handle even as you move the handles forward. Repeat. Arms stay wide throughout the movement. If going well try Twist or the Swakatee series.
