Arm Series: Up/Down on the Spine Corrector
Connecting your arms to your back is key for progressing your Pilates practice, getting the benefits of Pilates like better posture and building your backbends. The Arm Series on the Pilates Spine Corrector provides several exercises to help us connect our arms to our back, strengthen our extension and open up our chests. The Up/Down in the Arm Series takes the Swimming and Chest Expansion exercises and puts them together. If Arm Series Circles are working great transition into the Up/Down.
Work your arms in both directions. Focus on strength over flexibility.
Typically done from Arm Series Circles. If you chose the more accessible backbend where you sit on the step and back bend over keep that. If you start with the harder of the backbends remain there. If needed work your extension longer. Check if your neck is still long or if you began to overextend it. Work your legs as much as your arms.
On the final circle lift both arms back up to the ceiling. With your palms facing forward. Reach one arm overhead and reach the other arm down by your side. The arm overhead is reaching into extension like Swan! The arm by your side is doing Chest Expansion. Both shoulders are pulling wide. Switch the arms and repeat.
Going well? reach both arms up and go into Arm Series Hug.
