Hello my Pilates lovers, I am excited to announce a few wonderful options for enjoying Pilates with me from wherever you are in the wonderful world. Basically, after almost ten years of teaching and hundreds of clients that I have met here in LA, while I was traveling or while they were visiting, many of you do not live in LaLa Land (Los Angeles).
Do Reformer exercises exist on the Mat? Yes, no and maybe so! Well, actually, it’s more yes than no and a lot of similarities. Why? Because, when Joseph Pilates first created his method it was on the Mat. And, then what he noticed was that most people could not do the Mat work on their own. They needed help, strength, flexibility, awareness. So, he created the Reformer and his other apparatus to allow his students to be able to rock the Mat.
You’ve got goals! You have fitness goals that maybe you set a new years resolution or maybe an event is coming up and you just want to look or feel a certain way. Or, maybe you just want to start taking time for yourself. Perhaps you want to start putting your overall health first! All of these reasons are good and valid. And, your Pilates instructor while not a magician is someone you can articulate how you want to look and feel. The beauty of finding a Pilates instructor that is right for you is that they become your partner in crime. They become accountability and help you reach your personal health goals.
I am often asked, “Why do Pilates?” And, while there are many, many answers to this question. The benefits of…

When I first discovered Pilates it was on the mat. I changed my whole life to make sure I could…
In my personal Pilates practice, I’ve been noticing that while I can connect to my second seat quite well. I have been leaving my lower core hanging out! It’s so funny how our bodies like to “forget” something we already worked on ages ago. But, needless to say, I’ve been cheating a bit.
How busy are you? I know for me I am BUSY! I mean, sometimes I think if I had an assistant wouldn’t that be amazing. But, then I realize that my assistant can only do so much. I mean, my assistant cannot get my massages or do my workouts. Well, I guess she could but it wouldn’t help me feel strong or relaxed! And, so then I go back to just feeling overwhelmed and busy as busy can be and realizing that I need to put myself first. And, if you are anything like me then you too need to put yourself first! But, how do you do that? How do you put yourself first?
As I write this post I am hours away from a call with hopefully my last attempt to living life without wondering can I eat this? If I eat this how will I feel?
I going to just get super freaking honest here. I try to not be jealous of anyone. It happens, but usually, I take note and move on.
Swan, an exercise in Pilates that doesn’t stick to one piece of equipment. It’s the first extension exercise we meet on the mat, it prepares us for Pulling Straps and more on the reformer. It’ takes great flight on the barrels and on the Wunda chair, it knows no ends!
I first fell in love with Pilates on the mat. I’ll admit I actually didn’t even know what Pilates was…
I used to LOVE when the Criss Cross came up in my Mat Pilates practice! I would do extra reps if I could. But, then when the Saw would arrive I couldn’t wait for it to be over. And, then Corkscrew would come up and I would fall in love with Twists again. But, I’ll never forget when I finally got Spine Twist. I absolutely LOVED it!
On a Pilates Retreat like the one I am doing in February to Angkor Wat you are going to enjoy more than just Pilates and touring of the Temples! On a Pilates Retreat in Angkor you are going to meet and make friendships with all those in the group.
As promised, Andrea Maida Pilates and I are moving our tips for your Short box series to the Ladder Barrel. You’ll find out why I love doing this series of Pilates exercises over here so much in my Youtube video.
Tired of being tired after you fly? Travel is one of the greatest things you can do in your life! Experiencing other cultures, seeing sites hundreds and thousands of years old is worth all the miles. But, getting to where you’ve been dreaming of and feeling jet lag is the worst. And, for some means not traveling somewhere because there isn’t “enough” time to get used to the time zone or you’ll have jet lag when you get home. What if you didn’t have to deal with Jet lag at all? Where would you go?
