Rowing 3: From the Chest on the Arm Chair
Shave on the Pilates Arm Chair or Baby Chair has variations to challenge you when you’re ready. The first way to challenge your Shave is to sit up tall away from the back of the chair. As you Shave notice if you’re able to maintain or even get more length in your back. If that is going well trying this next version of Shave will be an even greater challenge and you’ll truly realize how full body every Pilates exercise can get on the Arm Chair.
Work pinky side of your hand on the handle throughout the movement.
Sit in the Arm Chair with one handle in each hand. Place your back up against the chair as tall as you can. Press the soles of your feet together with your knees apart. If you can’t place your feet together you can put your feet on the floor with your knees bent and your feet and knees a fist distance apart. Whichever variation of the legs you use work the legs throughout the exercise. Bend your elbows and your hands to the height of your chest.
Reach your arms to the high diagonal from your back towards straight without locking your elbows. Lower the straight arms towards the floor as far as you can without losing the length in your spine. Lift the arms up as high as you can without losing the connection to your chair. Open the arms wide to the side as you grow taller. Repeat. If going well give Rowing 4 From the Hips a try.
