Chest Expansion with the Guillotine
Chest Expansion is a common Pilates exercise. It’s found on several pieces of Pilates equipment. On the Guillotine, Chest Expansion might be the most unique. Unlike other Chest Expansions, this one you won’t get your hands past your hips. You’re really focusing on working the arms evenly from your back. This one will reveal which arm is overworking or underworking. Have fun exploring which arm needs more attention and then explore Side Arm Press Down to help balance any imbalances.
This is still a full body exercise! Legs, center and arms are all working.
Standing on the Mat with both hands on the bar, springs hooked from above on the Guillotine. Fingers long and together. Hands are a shoulders distance apart or slightly wider. Check that the entire palm of hand is on the bar and you’re not resting on one side of the hand more than another. Wrists long and straight. Heels together and toes apart hug both legs together as you gaze ahead.
Press the bar down with both hands. Ideally you’re pressing down evenly. Lift the bar back up and repeat. If the bar is moving unevenly use that as information on where to push move or less from. And then explore Side Arm Press Down.
