Monkey with the Guillotine
Monkey on the Guillotine is a delicious place to find a stretch. But, don’t let the stretch suck in out of finding the strength. Monkey on the Guillotine allows you to practice for Tree, Rowing from the Hips, Shave, Teaser and more! Feel free to play with where you set your hips up. Typically waist under the bar but give hips under the bar set up a try. And if going well, give the Single Leg Monkey a try.
Work your center away from your thighs while reaching the bar up and down from the back of your legs.
Typically, you’re already laying on the mat when doing Monkey. But, if needed the traditional mount of a controlled summersault is a great set up because it places you in a great spot with the bar over your waist. Bend your knees into your chest and place the balls of your feet a fist distance apart on the bar and heels together. Wrap hands around the bar about your shoulders distance apart. Head towards shins.
Working arms from back, point the feet and press legs towards straight. Your head and chest will come up with your legs. Once legs are straight flex the ankles and bend the elbows wide to the side like you are doing Shave. Point the feet and reach arms towards straight from back. Repeat point and flex 2-3x. Then bend your knees into your chest as you round back down and repeat.
Each time you straighten your legs you are working your center away from your thighs.
If going well, you can slide the hips under the bar and repeat 2-3 sets of 3.
