Standing Arms Behind with the Magic Circle
Pilates uniquely has exercises where the arms are working behind our backs. This is one of the many brilliances that Joseph Pilates gave us. Our arms are meant to move in front of us, behind us, to the side of us, and overhead. But, for many, due to weak shoulders and arm back connections, working the arms behind you can be challenging. Using the Pilates Magic Circle behind you is a great way to start or end your Pilates practice to understand the connections you need.

Stand with legs parallel and hips distance apart or with heels together and toes slightly apart. Whichever position allows you to stand tall with strength in your legs and center.
Place the heel of each hand on the pad of each circle behind your back with straight arms and fingers. It’s tempting to bend the elbows or hold the circle behind your back with your fingers. Focus on straight wrists, elbows and fingers. Even if the hold feels light.
With head over shoulders, shoulders over hips and hips over heels press the heels of hands into the circle. Resist the circle open and repeat 10x. Take a moment, reset and repeat for another set of 10. You can do this for up to 3 sets.
