Teaser Variations on the Reformer
If Teaser on the Pilates Reformer is starting to feel more possible and you want to add another challenge in your Reformer practice, then try these different variations on the Reformer. They will take what you already know and challenge your stability, balance, coordination, and strength. If you’ve got the Up and Down, Arm Circles and Leg Circles down without too much instability, then adding in Shave and a twist will be up your alley. Plus, who doesn’t want to do another rep of the Teaser on the Reformer? Just kidding, I know the answer to that, but still, you should challenge yourself.
Press your whole hand into your handles from your back the entire time.
To do these variations first make sure you are doing the Up/Down, Circles and Leg Circles without losing the connection to your straps, springs, and center. Have one heavy spring on your Reformer and set yourself up for Teaser- laying on your back on top of your long box, tailbone about an inch from the edge of the box. Your arms are long holding your handles and head is resting down. After you have done your Up/Down, Circles, and Leg Circles, come back up again and do one or both of these variations.
Press your hands into your handles reaching them down for the floor to come up as your reach your legs out and hug them together. Find your Teaser and then:
Shave – bend your elbows and place your index finger and thumb together in front of your chest. Maintaining your shape press your arms forward and pull your arms back. Ideally, you get your hands higher and higher up but it’s ok if it’s in front of your chest.
Or, with your palms up reach your arms at the right and your legs to the left. Maintain a reach into your handles so you remain connected to your back. Then switch and repeat 3-5x. Finish your variation and find yourself Teaser and then roll back down.
