Short Box Series: Side to Side on the Spine Corrector
Side to Side on the Short Box looks simple and is so complex! Practicing it on the Pilates Spine Corrector I have found makes it easy for you to understand where you might be leaning or shifting. You can work your legs in a different way to engage the back of your legs. While the Short Box series isn’t traditionally done on the Spine Corrector. I love to play with it here when I don’t have access to a Reformer or Ladder Barrel.
Reach down through the legs and up through the waist to go up and over.
Sitting on top of the apex of the barrel with the step in front of you. Feet on the ground feet and knees are about a fist distance apart. Feet pushing down and energetically pulling back. Arms are straight up overhead holding a pole wide. Arms slightly forward of the ears.
Lifting tall from your center reach both sides of your waist UP and over towards the side. Note, this doesn’t say over and down. It says UP and then over. You are aiming to make the tallest side bend. Which might look like two sides angling to the side. It’s also tempting to shift your ribs to one side as you bend. Instead, lift UP and work the side you’re reaching towards to be as long as the side you’re reaching away from. Then come up back up to center and repeat on the other side. It’s ok if this movement feels small.
