Short Box Series: Twist and Reach on the Spine Corrector
Twist and Reach on the Short Box takes your Flat and adds a twist. A lot of people add the side bend to the twist and the flat. And unfortunately, that isn’t really want you’re wanting. If you’re doing Twist on Hip or Side Sit Ups that’s a different story. One way to practice your lift and twist and reach is to give it a try on the Pilates Spine Corrector. While not where the Short Box Series is traditionally done it’s a fun way to practice your moves. Then give them a try on the Ladder Barrel or Reformer!
Twist from the waist while maintaining weight evenly in both hips.
Sitting on top of the apex of the barrel with the step in front of you. Feet on the ground feet and knees are about a fist distance apart. Feet pushing down and energetically pulling back. Arms are straight up overhead holding a pole wide. Arms slightly forward of the ears.
Without moving your hips forward or back twist from your waist (it’s tempting to use your arms). Then reach down through your legs as you lean and reach your entire torso back on an angle. Remain in the twist as you lift back up. Unwind at the top. Repeat on the other side.
If going well give Around the World a try.
