Short Box Series: Around the World on the Spine Corrector
Pilates exercise Around the World requires reach in all directions. As you move your spine from a twist to a tall back and back to a twist and tall back you still need to work through your legs. On the Reformer it’s tempting to hang off the straps. If you don’t have access to a Ladder Barrel playing with the reach of the legs while sitting on your Pilates Spine Corrector is a creative way to practice this full-body work. The more you stand in the back of your legs the more you can get out of your hip flexors and work your entire waist.
Twist from the waist, not the arms as you go from one side to the other.
Sitting on top of the apex of the barrel with the step in front of you. Feet on the ground feet and knees are about a fist distance apart. Feet pushing down and energetically pulling back. Arms are straight up overhead holding a pole wide. Arms slightly forward of the ears.
Without moving your hips on the barrel, reaching down through both legs evenly twist your waist to the right. Reaching through your legs lean your torso towards the back right corner of your barrel. Open your chest up towards the ceiling and find a long and tall spine. Twist your waist to the left and return up to seated while in a twist. Unwind then reverse and repeat. Twist left, open up, twist right and lift. After doing a few in each direction play with Tree.
