Leg Series: Beats on the Spine Corrector
The Pilates method has several exercises where we “beat” our legs open and closed. The Pilates Spine Corrector is one of those places. The Beats on the Spine Corrector Leg Series, much like the Beats in the Leg Spring Leg Series help challenge our ability to control our legs as we open and close them. Using our inner thighs to guide our legs closed and out outer thighs to work the legs open. It’s easy to think of these Beats as floppy feet or just choreography. But they really are a leg and center strengthener. Typically they come after Walking on the Spine Corrector. If the Spine Corrector isn’t ideal for your body try this exercise on the Small Barrel.
Work outer thighs to open the legs and inner thighs to close the legs.
Beats are typically done after Walking. So you would already be set up on the Spine Corrector when you moved into this exercise. Start from the Frog position on your Spine Corrector. Heels hugging together and gaze straight up to the ceiling. Collarbones and shoulders wide on your back.
Frog your legs out to the high diagonal while maintaining your gaze straight up to the ceiling. Work the legs open and closed for 8 beats. Hold the heels together for a count of 8 then while hugging the legs together lower the legs a little bit and repeat. 8 beats and then hold for 8. If going well try again, lower the legs and beat for 8 then hold for 8 before Frogging the legs back in.
Your legs can go as low as you can maintain a connection of your back to the Spine Corrector.
