Leg Series: Scissors on the Spine Corrector
Scissors on the Pilates Spine Corrector is usually after Beats. However, while there is a series on the Spine Corrector, the variations you choose should be for your body. And what you need either that day or to support where you want to go in your practice. In Pilates, it’s easy to just do an entire series to be “perfect.” But, when it comes to the Spine Corrector or other pieces of apparatus it’s about using exercises to connect to your center or challenge the connections you have. Scissors will challenge your strength and also how much you might hang out in flexibility. Work your range and it’s 100% ok if your Scissors are not that big. If going well move into Helicopter!
Use the back of the bottom leg to reach while center holds the other leg.
Typically done from Walking or Beats on the Spine Corrector. So you’re likely already set up with your knees pulled into your chest, heels together, toes and knees apart. Gaze to the ceiling, shoulders wide and center pulled to the Spine Corrector. Hugging your heels together and Frog out to the diagonal challenging for you. Point through your feet.
Reach one leg away and one leg toward you. The leg going away it’s easy to let it go farther than the leg pulling toward you. The leg working away can go as far as it doesn’t pull your hip out of alignment. And as low as you can maintain the connection to the Spine Corrector. And, this is the tricky part as far away as the leg you are pulling towards you moves from your center. This means, likely, you will feel like your Scissors are not as big as they could be.
Work the leg pulling towards you from your center and not your hip flexors.
Switch the legs and repeat the work.
Repeat and when ready hug your heels together and Frog back into your center to reset and move towards Bicycle or another part of the Leg Series.
