Leg Series: Walking on the Spine Corrector
The Pilates Spine Corrector provides incredible information about what is working in your body as you move your legs from your center. And what isn’t. In Pilates, there are several exercises that are asymmetrical with straight legs. Exercises like Single Straight Leg Stretch, High Scissors, Control Balance and more require you to move your legs from your center. Walking on the Spine Corrector is a wonderful teaching exercise that will challenge your practice as you go! If the Spine Corrector isn’t ideal for you then use the Small Barrel.
Work “steps” from back of each leg while keeping a connection to the barrel.
Walking is typically done from Small Circles on the Spine Corrector. So you would already be set up on the Spine Corrector when you moved into this exercise. Start from the Frog position on your Spine Corrector. Heels hugging together and gaze straight up to the ceiling. Collarbones and shoulders wide on your back.
Maintaining your upper body where it is Frog your legs out to the high diagonal with pointed feet. Holding one leg still reach the other leg down about a foot’s distance. Then hold that leg still reach the other leg down. Repeat one leg, one step at a time up to 6 steps. Then repeat this process to “walk” back up. Hug the heels together at the top. Only one leg should move at a time. It’s easy for you to move both legs past each other as you go. But the goal is to see if you can move from the back of your legs while controlling which leg is moving.
If going well, work into Beats and Bicycle.
