Leg Series: Frog on the Spine Corrector
The Spine Corrector Leg Series is one of the most useful teaching series in the Pilates studio. If the Pilates Spine Corrector is too big of a lift then use a Small Barrel. All of the Leg Series can be done on the Small Barrel that are done on the Spine Corrector. The Frog exercise in the Leg Series is the first to learn. And the first to let go! Why? Because once you understand how to use the Frogs to challenge your center to enter and exit every other Leg Series Variation. Once you’ve got this down feel free to skip the Frogs and savor the ones in between each variation you decide to do for your Pilates practice.
Reach your legs out and feel the frontal hip points pull to low ribs.
To enter the Leg Series you will do this one time. Ideally to get into Frogs or when you skip the Frogs into Circles. Sit just shy of the apex of the hump towards the crease of the step. Place one foot on the step and reach one leg straight out as a counterweight. Hold the handles with your hands and round back to the mat. Your straight leg will lift up as you lean back. Shoulders should be on the mat, it’s possible more of your body will be on the mat. Hips are on top of the apex of the. hump. Or depending on height you may be just shy of the hump. Gaze to the ceiling, hands hold the handles, shoulders wide and heels together and knees apart.
Maintaining your gaze to the ceiling reach your legs to straight. If new you’re aiming for the high diagonal. Think where the ceiling meets the wall. If you’re getting stronger then you’re able to reach your legs to straight lower. But only as low as your pelvis isn’t tipping over the hump and then back down as you do the movement.
Hug the heels together as you reach the legs out and then back in. Pull your legs in only as much as you don’t sink down into your shoulders.
Repeat and then if going well Frog out to start Circles and continue using the Frogs in between each variation.
