Heels Together, Toes Apart with the Toe Corrector
In Pilates, some exercises are done in parallel and others are done turned out. Why? Because Joseph Pilates knew the importance of working our legs in both stances. Our anatomical position is a slight turn out. But often many people roll their feet when turning out or they sickle. It’s important to maintain weight evenly across the ball of the foot and heel, whether legs are parallel or turned out. The Pilates Toe Corrector Heels Together, Toes Apart series is helpful for strengthening our ankles and feet.
Use both legs from hips to heels!
Sitting tall with legs straight out in front of you, heels hugging together and toes apart with Toe Corrector around the big toes. Either at the base or towards the tip of the toes. Hug the outer hips in and sit tall with arms by side if possible hands pressing into the mat.
Work the tops of the feet apart to open the springs while hugging heels together. Close the spring and repeat.
If going well engage the spring and point your feet then flex the feet back. Repeat. Working the entire ball of the foot back and forth.
