45-Min Full Body Workout: Empowering Your Fitness Journey

Welcome! Congratulations – you are here showing up for yourself, exploring the benefits of reformer pilates. I love it and I want you to pat yourself on the back. Any amount of this workout you get in your body is amazing. Today is a 45 Minute Workout Full Body. We’re going to hit those arms, hit those legs, your abs and your butt, but really every exercise is full body all the time. So this workout is going to be there for you. And if you cannot do an exercise yet, replace it with something we already did. Let me know what you have questions about in the comments below.

Connecting Mind and Body with Reformer Workout

Hello, I’m Lesley Logan, I’m going to guide you through this workout using the tutorials linked below. I’m the co-founder of OnlinePilatesClasses.com. I’ve been teaching since 2008. The Reformer was not the first piece of equipment I learned on. Actually, I learned the Mat-work first. I didn’t know the equipment existed! And actually, the first time I was on a Reformer, I thought I was gonna get thrown off the Reformer! But I have a new love for the Reformer because it really does support my Mat practice and my love for the Mat. So that’s what we’re gonna focus on today. This advanced pilates reformer workout is about deeply connecting to all parts of our body.

High five yourself! You did it! It’s so important to me that I get this into you. It’s not about being perfect. Slow doesn’t equal controlled. More reps doesn’t mean harder. Accessing your entire body in every exercise is the goal. Spending time with your mind and your body going, “Hmm. Can I do that? Where am I feeling this?” And getting feedback on that. That’s the goal. That’s what we’re here for. So where I said, I want you to feel this and you didn’t… I don’t want you to go, “There’s something wrong with me.” No, there’s not. You’re amazing. You’re exactly the way you’re supposed to be. You’re gonna put in the comments. “When you did something massage. You said you feel about your legs. I don’t feel my hip flexors. What do I do?” All right?

So yes, here on YouTube, you take this class as many times as you want, we’ve got shorter classes you can take as well, we’ve got stuff on the mat, chair, Cadillac, all that. But there’s no one holding you accountable to show up and press play.

At OPC, every single Tuesday a new class drops, we take the old one away. So you will show up at least one time for some amount of minutes to take that class because you don’t want to lose it.

Every single month we drop a longer class, if you’re here, it’s because you like a longer workout, we drop a longer workout on the Reformer. We theme it to the Mat class as well. And if you’ve accessed the other equipment, you can check out those ones. They’re all working together.

Each theme is based off of you. It’s based off of the members, the questions, the things that you need to work on, because we know that each exercise supports the other one. So if you’re struggling with an exercise right now, one, it’s because you need it. And two, we have to build your strength up.

And we use other exercises in the modality to do that. So it’s not about just being repetitive about the exercise. That’s not going to work. It’s not about shaming yourself or judging yourself. It’s about getting support on your practice. getting your questions answered. We could look at your form, and then you can start to really hone in as your personal practice. It’s our goal at OPC.

SUCH A TEASE

ONLINE MAT & REFORMER PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Teaser is probably one of the most photographed exercises in Pilates. Which makes people think it's a "peak pose." But, it's anything but! It's simply another layer to your Pilates practice. This week we will acknowledge how each exercise contributes to your ability to do Teaser (someday) and then how Teaser teaches you where to get curious in your practice.

On the Mat we will use light weights for one round of Teaser as they can be helpful for those still adding into their practice.
No props on the Reformer.

1, 2, BUCKLE MY SHOE

Do you remember this nursery rhyme?

Well, by the time we do
buckle shoes - HIPS & REACHING
shut doors - ROTATIONS, PUSH & PULL
pick up sticks - STRENGTH & STRETCH,
lay ‘em straight - ALIGNMENT
… then start all over again - HA! We’re doing Pilates!
And that’ll be our focus as we apply this kids’ rhyme to our Mat and Reformer classes.

Please have a resistance loop. (A tied Theraband or leggings work great, too)

OPPOSITES ATTRACT

ONLINE MAT, REFORMER, TOWER/CADILLAC & WUNDA CHAIR PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

In Pilates you’ll often find that exercises are grouped together or placed in a particular order so that we can move in opposite directions…and work opposing muscles. Think Roll Up & Roll Over on the Mat, the Rowing Series on the Reformer, Swan & Teaser on the Wunda Chair, or Push Through on the Cadillac/Tower. Let’s explore how those opposites help keep our muscles flexible while helping us get stronger.

Props needed:
Mat: dowel
Reformer: pole
Tower: None
Chair: Reformer Box (not absolutely necessary, can be done without), Mat, Wall for support and if applicable Yoga Block or 2 x 4 (for petite people and for building up some exercises

BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE

Online Mat, Reformer, Tower/Cadillac & Wunda Chair Pilates Class Descriptions:

“It’s showtime!”

We’ll do 3 reps of each exercise and then banish it from the rest of the workout…UNLESS one of your teachers shouts out “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” - if this happens, they might bring back one of the exercises you’ve already done!!! Let’s hope it’s one you love and not one you were hoping would stay banished!

SSSSNAKE & TWIST

Online Mat & Reformer Pilates Class Descriptions:

On the reformer, there’s an exercise called Snake, and another exercise called Snake & Twist. We’ll build our connections throughout our practice to those 2 exercises. You’ll see how many exercises in your practice are already preparing you for those exercises, or maybe what’s missing that you need.

On the mat, we’ll build up to the Side Bend exercise, and add some variations that are like the Snake exercise on the reformer, or the Snake & Twist exercise on the reformer.

UP, UP, & AWAY

ONLINE MAT, REFORMER, CADILLAC & WUNDA CHAIR PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

We are all going to feel like Super Humans after this month!!

Whenever I’m in a hard exercise (for me) where I’m holding myself up with my arms and reaching my legs away I picture myself with super human strength!!! I can do ANYTHING! It makes me smile and helps me stay STRONG.

This month our exercise is Up Stretch and when you think about it - reaching your legs away and staying strong over the carriage may feel a lot like flying!

We’ll be focusing on stabilizing our strong cores while staying equally balanced in our arms and legs. We are giving you some amazing building blocks by merging strength and stretch in all directions. You are going to get a little bit of everything that you can use to connect to your Up Stretch (and even your Roll Up and Knee Stretches Off).

Chair: Please have a foam roller and a balance pad available. We are going to challenge your balance safely.
